The UP School of Economics Alumni Association (UPSEAA) consists of all graduates of the UPSE Diliman in all levels: Undergraduate, Masters of Arts in Economics, Masters in Development Economics and Doctor of Philosophy in Economics.
We are a diverse group enriched by our differences in the professional and personal paths we’ve taken, but share a common DNA.
Our vision is to be an alumni community that is actively engaged with our alma mater, the U.P. School of Economics.
UPSEAA has been instrumental in reaching out to the alumni for donations for facilites improvements, scholarships, and other initiatives.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UP School of Economics last February 2015, UPSEAA awarded the first Outstanding Alumni Awards to the alumni with exemplary achievements in their chosen fields of endeavor that brought about substantial benefits to society and honor to the university. Two groups were recognized – first, special citations were given to the 4 luminaries who graduated before the founding of UPSE in 1965, and second, the 50 alumni who graduated 1965 onwards.
The carabull is considered the national animal of the Philippines with its widespread presence in the vast tracts of lands tilled by farmers through the centuries.
Since then it has been called the Beast of Burden - as it tolled and labored together with the Filipino farmers - to achieve a high yield of harvest and feed the millions of people for their daily sustenance.
Today, we embrace the metaphor that the Carabull symbolizes with regard to the economy of our country. It connotes hard work, tenacity, resilience, partnership, and service. In the halls of industry, it has also been used to describe the boom and busts of the economy, hence, the expression “bull and bear”. It talks about the strength and about the upward trends. But before it reaches the height of its climb, it also has to go through some challenges – the rough terrain – symbolized by the rock on which it trods – and as it conquers these challenges – it then reaches the pinnacle of its climb.
This is the essence of the UP School of Economics Alumni Association (UPSEAA) Distinguished Alumni Award. A testament to the hard work of our alumni – unfazed by the challenges and difficulties, selfless and service-oriented, defining his or her success in the context of social welfare and national development.
UPSEAA honored two alumni who have provided unparalleled service to the government.
