On February 7, 2015, a day before the 50th anniversary of the founding of the School of Economics, the UPSE community of faculty and staff, students and alumni gathered at the Bahay ng Alumni for a first ever Gala Night. With the Golden Jubilee theme of “BOND FOR GOLD”, it was a night of celebration for the School, it’s alumni’s achievements, a night of camaraderie and a rekindling of memories and friendships of everyone’s years in UPSE. A Pre-Gala cocktails was held at the UPSE to celebrate the inauguration of the newly-renovated UPSE lobby sponsored by Batch’83.
The show, produced by the UPSEAA and directed by award-winning UPSE alumnus Bart Guingona featured UPSE alumni in the performing arts. The Prayer invocation was sung by tenor Frankie Aseniero and Maricris Joaquin. Jon Santos did a Miriam Defensor impression, which brought the house laughing. Sitti Navarro sang some samba songs. UP Concert Chorus alumni who were UPSE alumni as well rendered songs with the showmanship the UPCC is known for. OPM Hitmen led by Renz Verano entertained the audience with a medley of OPM songs. There were audio-video presentations of the School’s timeline, a preview of UPSE’s Commemorative Book, the launching of the “Giving Back” fund raising program of the UPSE, among other numbers in the program. To add more excitement, there were around 200 prize items that were raffled off. The highlight of the evening was the Outstanding Alumni Awards given to our alumni with exemplary achievements and contributions that make us proud.
