Paolo Antonio L. Azurin

Paolo Azurin is the current Treasurer of the UP School of Economics Alumni Association. He has been an investment banker for over 19 years. He is also currently the President and CEO of CLSA Exchange Capital, Inc. and Head of Corporate Finance and Capital Markets – Philippines at CLSA, where he worked on over 100 capital markets and mergers & acquisitions transactions worth over US$ 14.0Bn in total. 

He was part of some of the most significant deals in the Philippines, including the IPOs of OceanaGold Philippines, Citicore Energy REIT, MREIT and Robinsons Commercial REIT; the Re-IPOs of Bloomberry Resorts and Metro Pacific Investments Corp; and the Privatization by way of IPO of PNOC Energy Development Corporation. 

Paolo is concurrently an Adjunct Professor at the Asian Institute of Management, where he teaches courses in Investment Banking, Mergers & Acquisitions, Sustainable Business Models, and Entrepreneurial Finance & Valuation. He also serves as a Director in the Board of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) and the FINEX Academy. 

From 2018 to 2021, he served as the President & CEO of CIMB Bancom Capital where he started the Philippine investment banking business of CIMB. 

Prior to becoming a banker, Paolo was Director for Economic Research at the Institute for Development & Econometric Analysis (IDEA), Lecturer in Sociology and Teaching Fellow in Economics all at the University of the Philippines – Diliman. 

He has a BS (cum laude) & MA Economics from the University of the Philippines School of Economics. He also has a Certificate in Financial Decision Making from the University of Chicago, and an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he graduated at the top of his class with a perfect 4.0/4.0 GPA. In 2019, he finished the Program for Leadership Development (alternative Executive MBA) at the Harvard Business School.
